Somerset

Somerset is a rural county built up of rolling hills such as the Quantock Hills, Blackdown Hills, Mendip Hills and the Exmoor’s National Park, with also the large flat expanses of land which are known as the Somerset Levels. There has been evidence of human occupation dating back to the Palaeolithic times, and of subsequent settlement in the Roman and Anglo Saxon periods. The county played a significant part in the consolidation of power and rise of King Alfred The Great, and later the English Civil War and the Monmouth Rebellion. The city of Bath is famous for its substantial Georgian architecture and is known as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
